Some estimates put the pre-Columbian beaver population at 400 million animals. These animals within 200 years of contact with European trappers were on the verge of extinction. Through varied efforts in relocation and by increasing trapping restrictions beaver now number between 6 and 12 million animals- a success story that hasn’t finished being told.
